BREAKING: SFA Head of Referees Willie Collum officially appoints former PMGOL elite referee manager to oversee VAR systems as this will be advantageous to Celtic FC

After a long summer, Celtic are back in competitive play. However, there are always things going on in Scottish football that affect the game as a whole.

People in this country always have a lot to say about judging, whether they like it or not. VAR has not slowed down the scrutiny of choices in the Scottish Premiership. Instead, it has made them more important.

Willie Collum was named the SFA’s new Head of Referees earlier this summer. His job is to raise the level of refereeing in Scotland as a whole.

The 45-year-old set some early goals, including calling for the handball rule to be applied with more common sense and for VAR to have a better standard for when it can be used.

Now, he has made a major hire in that area that is expected to get a lot of attention because the person is connected to the Premier League.

Jon Moss has been named SFA VAR Manager.

Collum has appointed John Moss, a former PMGOL elite referee manager and Premier League official, as the SFA’s first VAR boss. This is a first.

The 53-year-old was hired as a specialist and will be responsible for “VAR training, implementation, appointment and performance review,” among other things.

Moss said after being hired, “I’m really excited to work with Willie and the team to improve how VAR is used in Scottish football.” During our talks, we both agreed that the basics of VAR are very important: clear, communication, and openness.

“When VAR was first used in England, we went through a similar process. I was the referee for the first game in the country where VAR was used, so I know from experience what has worked and what needs to change, both as a referee and in my job as PGMOL.

“I believe that we can keep making VAR better in Scottish football by working together with the referees and the Scottish FA team.”

Willie Collum talks about hiring Jon Moss.

An article from the same source says that Collum also talked about Moss coming to Scotland. He said, “I am delighted to welcome Jon, who has a lot of experience using technology as a referee, as a VAR operator, and as a manager of elite officials.”

“I think his experience will help not only our current VARs and AVARs, but also the next generation, who will need to learn how to use the technology well as we keep making it better.” “I’m sure that Jon’s hiring will help us get VAR to work better and get out of the way less in Scottish football.”

As Celtic fans, all we really want is for decisions to be made quickly and consistently across the board. Supporters from all over the country will agree with that, no matter what party they belong to.

There isn’t much else to say about this except that if Moss can help improve VAR’s operating accuracy, everyone wins.

He comes in with a great name and a lot of experience running high-level matches. It will be interesting to see how he does in Scotland.
