Things that happened in Liverpool’s Premier League game against Bournemouth on Saturday that you might not have seen
Liverpool got their good start to the Premier League season back on track with a strong win at home over Bournemouth on Saturday. During the first half, Luis Diaz scored twice and Darwin Nunez also scored as the Reds claimed a 3-0 win.
Arne Slot has now won five of his first six games in charge, and his team is now briefly at the top of the early table for the top flight.
But there were many things that were missed or didn’t get much attention during the 90 minutes at Anfield…
Liverpool eventually dominated the first half so much that Virgil van Dijk felt at ease enough to stroll upfield just before halftime.
The crowd at Anfield kept cheering for the captain, who kept bringing the ball forward. He then played it wide to Diaz and then sat down near the edge of the penalty area to receive the pass.
But Diaz decided to play back to Dominik Szoboszlai, which made Van Dijk angry and caused his arms to fail before the center-back ran back into the back line. Virg, maybe next time.
an attempt to use VAR
An effort has been made by the authorities to improve how they talk to fans inside stadiums about VAR choices this season. It’s a good idea, but it’s still having some problems getting started.
Even more so at Anfield. A long time after Antoine Semenyo’s early goal was called back for offside, the scoreboards described in great detail why the goal was not counted.
But the text was so small on screens that weren’t very big that almost no one could read it. It might be time to go back to the drawing board.
Salah is looking at Nunez.
It looked like Nunez was having a great time after his amazing hit. In the second half, though, there was a scary moment when he ran headlong into Bournemouth goalie Kepa Arrizabalaga after a pass inside the box.
Both of them lay on their backs on the grass for a while before slowly getting to their feet. Along with that, Mohamed Salah made sure to walk over to Nunez and give him a pat on the shoulder to cheer him on.
Nunez and Kepa then shook hands before the game resumed. That was nice.
