Wolves Eye Coaching Role for Wrexham Defender Conor Coady Amid Rob Edwards’ Appointment
Wolves are reportedly interested in bringing former captain Conor Coady back to Molineux — but this time in a coaching capacity rather than as a player — to join Rob Edwards’ new backroom staff.
According to The Telegraph, the Premier League club are exploring the possibility of reuniting with the 32-year-old defender, who left Wolves in 2023. Journalist John Percy reports that Wolves want to hand Coady his first-ever coaching role, even though he remains under contract with Wrexham on a multi-year deal.
However, the move appears unlikely at this stage. Coady still has around 18 months left on his playing contract, and Wrexham are expected to resist any approach given their investment in the former England international.
Coady, who was seen as a key signing for Phil Parkinson’s side following their promotion to the Championship, has struggled for consistency this season and made only five league appearances after being dropped due to poor form.
During his time at Molineux, Coady became a club icon, making 151 appearances over four Premier League campaigns and earning an England call-up. His leadership was instrumental in Wolves’ top-flight return under Nuno Espirito Santo in 2018.
Newly appointed Wolves boss Rob Edwards — who previously worked alongside Coady during his stint as a first-team coach — is keen to reunite with him and add his experience to the coaching staff.
Despite limited game time, Coady remains a valuable member of Wrexham’s dressing room, bringing leadership and Premier League experience to a newly promoted side. Given he’s under contract until 2027 and reportedly earning around £25,000 per week, Wrexham still owe him over £2 million in wages — a figure unlikely to be matched in any coaching offer from Wolves.
For now, the prospect of a Molineux return for Coady appears remote, but his long-standing connection to the club means it’s a situation worth keeping an eye on.
