Brendan Rodgers explained the hidden reason why he substituted Greg Taylor during their 6-0 victory match against St. Johnstone
Brendan Rodgers, the boss of Celtic, has talked about why he took Greg Taylor off the field in the middle of tonight’s game against St. Johnstone.
The left back was taken off at halftime as the Hoops easily won 6-0 in Perth.
Taylor was great in the first 45 minutes and set up Kyogo Furuhashi’s second goal of the night with a beautiful cross into the box. However, manager Rodgers subbed him off at halftime.
He was replaced by Alex Valle, who was on loan from Barcelona. Valle did himself no harm by playing very well in the second half.
The Spanish player looked like he could attack from the left side, and he set up Adam Idah for a great team move that gave the Celts a 6-0 lead.
Before the second half, there were some questions about the choice to replace Taylor, but manager Rodgers has since made things clear.
The Irishman said after the game that Taylor had a little pain and that there was no point in taking any chances since Celtic was already up 3-0.
“We thought Greg had a tight calf in the first 15 minutes,” the manager told The Celtic Way.
“Just to be safe, we take him off and put Alex in his place.” Also, we hope everything is okay with him. It also obviously helped us keep track of some of the other players.
Rodgers will want his first-choice starting 11 to be ready away at Dortmund.
Taylor has been especially important at the start of the new season, but young Valle showed to be a reliable choice tonight.
