Brendan Rodgers has specifically identified a Celtic player for criticism.
This evening, Brendan Rodgers acknowledged that Celtic centre-back Auston Trusty must enhance his ability to contend with the physical demands of Scottish football.
He characterised his team’s performance in their 3-3 draw against Dundee as “somewhat lacking in resilience.
“The Northern Irishman admitted that he was profoundly dissatisfied with the performance exhibited by the Scottish champions during the William Hill Premiership match against Tony Docherty’s team at Dens Park this evening. The Parkhead team, which extended their advantage over Rangers to 16 points despite not securing a victory, relinquished their
lead on two occasions throughout the 90 minutes and required a penalty from Arne Engels in injury time to obtain a draw.Rodgers expressed concern regarding his team’s defensive performance throughout the match and was particularly alarmed when the £6 million summer acquisition,
Trusty, permitted himself to be overpowered in the lead-up to Aaron Donnelly’s goal, which placed the hosts ahead 3-2 with 12 minutes remaining. “We exhibited a notably passive demeanour, particularly during the second half,” he remarked. “The game should have been out of sight in the first half.
We commenced with a strong performance; however, we subsequently lost focus during a set piece, and our lack of organisation permitted them to equalise. “Having taken the lead, I anticipated that we would progress effectively, particularly with the slight decline towards our own supporters; however, our defensive performance was markedly subpar.”
“It is not in accordance with our expectations, given the effectiveness of our defence and the level of aggression we have demonstrated; however, we shall continue to strive until the very end.” A singular point does not align with our objectives; however, we must accept it and proceed accordingly.
“It constitutes fundamental knowledge.” It is a match that we allowed to slip from our grasp unnecessarily. At times, possessing dominance during the creative process may lead to a certain degree of passivity. While it is not customary for us to engage in such actions, we undoubtedly did so this evening.
“Upon scoring that goal, they acquired a motivation to strive for victory.” We were simply not present in the duels and defensive efforts. Consequently, it becomes challenging to establish that rhythm and pace while in possession of the object.
Our performance declined after the 40th minute; however, we continued to exert effort and demonstrate resilience. If victory is unattainable, it is imperative to avoid defeat. When enquired about Trusty’s involvement in the third goal scored by Dundee, Rodgers remarked, “One must manage that situation more effectively.”
It is imperative that you remain vigilant and alert; it is as straightforward as that. Standing at 6 feet 4 inches, you must learn to navigate this reality more effectively; however, he is aware of and comprehends this situation. “In certain areas, we exhibited a degree of leniency.”
Adam Idah squandered a significant opportunity to extend Celtic’s lead to 2-0 during the first half, following a pass from Kyogo Furuhashi that positioned him directly in front of the Dundee goal. The £9 million striker has now experienced a goal drought, having not scored in his last 12 matches.
Rodgers stated, “We had several favourable opportunities.” We effectively adapted our gameplay in response to their formation and created several promising opportunities. If we secure the second goal, it could significantly enhance our position in the match. We did not engage in that action, yet we are subjected to punishment.
“My primary concern pertains to defensive considerations.” It is invariably challenging for a striker; however, if the team is applying pressure and maintaining an active pace, it is to be hoped that other players will also make significant contributions.
