Brendan Rodgers praises two “exceptional” players in defiance of Celtic’s draw with Dundee United.
A frustrating draw against Dundee United allowed Celtic to increase their lead at the summit of the Scottish Premiership to nine points.
Brendan Rodgers fielded a Celtic team that was a mixture of players at Tannadice in an effort to maintain his unblemished record of victories on the road in Tayside.Unfortunately for the Celtic manager, his team was unable to challenge Dundee United to the same level as the Hoops supporters are accustomed to.
Despite a late attacking surge toward the conclusion of the game, a 0-0 draw was achieved, much to Rodgers’ aggravation.
Despite the team’s impasse at Tannadice, the Celtic manager acknowledged his disappointment with the team’s performance. However, he did take the time to commend two of his players.
Brendan Rodgers praises two Celtic players following the Dundee United draw. Rodgers stated in an interview with Sky Sports Scotland, “We were in all the areas that we desired to be in, and we were in them frequently.”
“However, my assessment of the game is that we did not dedicate sufficient effort to the goalkeeper.” We were never able to achieve the target, despite the numerous opportunities that were available to us.
The ‘keeper made a remarkable save at the end when Arne popped up to poke it through the legs, and he had to react swiftly. We passed the ball well and connected the game. “We also had a great opportunity with Kyogo, and we are currently in the positions we aspire to be in.
However, I believe that we did not exert enough pressure on the goalkeeper, particularly in the first half.”However, I found Stephen [Welsh] to be exceptional when he arrived today. He and Scales performed exceptionally well in challenging circumstances, including the wind.
However, it appeared that we were unable to score. Brendan Rodgers regrets Celtic’s absence of ruthlessness in their match against Dundee United. “It’s just being clinical,” Rodgers continues.
“I think that you always want to hit the target and a couple of other moments as well, where, again, we get into really good areas across… we just weren’t quite reading it well enough to anticipate the runs to get in there.”
“I would simply be a bit more ruthless in our finishing and, as I previously stated, make the keeper work.”
That pertains to precision and clinicality; however, I cannot criticize the players’ dedication and contributions. “And some of the footballs were of exceptional quality.” We generated an adequate number of opportunities; however, as previously stated, it was not to be.
Rodgers will proceed to the subsequent match at Celtic Park, which will be against Motherwell on Boxing Day. Rangers’ recent victory over Aberdeen, which currently occupies third place, has convinced the Celtic manager that he is unable to provide any further motivation.
The Celtic supporters can derive solace from the fact that they have now visited nearly every away venue in the Scottish Premiership and emerged unscathed, maintaining a substantial lead at the summit.
Rodgers will be striving to carry his nine-point lead into the Ibrox Glasgow Derby or, if Celtic’s results are favorable, an even stronger lead at the summit, with two upcoming home games.
