Brendan Rodgers provides an unvarnished assessment of the Celtic Champions League impasse against Dinamo Zagreb.
Brendan Rodgers has expressed his opinion on Celtic’s goalless draw with Dinamo Zagreb at Maksimir Stadium tonight.
Adam Idah and Nicolas Kuhn were the closest to breaking the deadlock, but the Irish team was unable to break through a resolute host team, despite dominating possession.
Marko Pjaca nearly secured the victory for the hosts in the final minutes, but he was denied by Kasper Schmeichel in an exceptional manner with ten minutes remaining.
Nevertheless, Celtic and Dinamo Zagreb both settled for a point on an uneventful matchday six night.
Defences were dominant, resulting in the Bhoys having nine Champions League points as they prepare for their final two matches against Aston Villa and Young Boys.
Currently, Brendan Rodgers has responded to the events of the evening, identifying both the advantages and the areas that require improvement for his team. Brendan Rodgers provides an unvarnished assessment of the Zagreb impasse.
In an interview with TNT Sports, Rodgers acknowledged that his team did not exert sufficient pressure to force the issue and was dissatisfied with their performance in the final third.
However, he acknowledged that his team provided their all to secure a victory. He elaborated, “We were robust and resilient from a defensive standpoint.”
Probably both squads, to be frank; the quality was subpar. Certainly to our standards We had a few brief moments and opportunities, but upon our arrival, we were unable to execute the appropriate pass or cross.
“To be fair, they defended a single moment exceptionally well. We had a move, Arne crossed the ball, and the defender did an excellent job.” Outside of that, the final third was not particularly impressive.
It was just that extra little bit, but we had a lot of the ball, excellent domination in the game, and were comfortable, which is always a great sign for us.
“That being said, it is a point that is located away from home.” Another point: We have nine points after six games, which places us in an ideal position for our final game at home against Young Boys. Rodgers explores the advantages and disadvantages of Celtic football.
He later elaborated on the proposal and the absence of innovation: “It was of high quality; however, we were lacking a slight amount of it.” The surface was somewhat challenging; I must admit that it was somewhat irregular and was not as smooth as desired due to the surface.
We pursued the opportunity from the moment the siren blew, but we were deficient in that crucial element of quality. Finally, regarding the preservation of a clean sheet:
“That is the most gratifying aspect; we are departing from our home base with a sense of assurance in our ability to defend as a team. You have observed the players’ dedication and effort.”
“However, as I previously mentioned, we were unable to fully explore them.”
We were presented with favorable opportunities; however, we may have neglected to capitalize on that opportunity. I believed that we needed to maintain the attack for a slightly longer period in the final third. Otherwise, the competitors exerted themselves to the fullest.
“We implemented the modifications to preserve the energy of the game; however, we failed to capitalize on the few high-quality moments that could have been the deciding factor upon our arrival.”
Celtic was unable to secure a victory on the night; however, a point could be advantageous as they assess the challenge of defeating Young Boys in January under the lights.
Tonight, there are advantages and disadvantages that can be derived, with certain elements that require improvement. However, this outcome will not be perceived as being detrimental in any way when the dust has settled.
