Celtic
Brendan Rodgers shares the reason why the two Celtic F.C. players Maik Nawrocki and Johnny Kenny were not inculded in the Scottish Cup semi-final match win against St. Johnstone
Celtic is on track to win all three titles after making it to the Scottish Cup final at Hampden on Sunday.
The only team that can stop Brendan Rodgers from winning a third straight treble with Celtic is Aberdeen, who they play on May 24.
The big names on the bench for Celtic’s semi-final win over St. Johnstone were Nicolas Kuhn, Jota, and Jeffrey Schlupp.
What the Celtic Park faithful might not have noticed is that there were eight substitutes called by both managers compared to the nine used during the Perth fixture in the Premiership on April 6.
The Celtic boss talked about this before the win in the Scottish Cup semi-final, and he wasn’t a happy man.
Why Johnny Kenny and Maik Nawrocki weren’t on Celtic’s Scottish Cup semi-final team
Even though their boss said they were “brilliant in training,” Maik Nawrocki and Johnny Kenny were not picked for Celtic’s Scottish Cup semi-final team.
He told BBC Radio Scotland that Rodgers didn’t like that he could only name eight substitutes for Scottish Cup games, which meant that Nawrocki and Kenny had to stay at home.
The Irishman did say that he was lucky to have such a “fantastic” team, but he didn’t like that he had to leave out certain players because of the rules.
“It’s always hard,” Rodgers said of leaving good guys on the bench. “That’s the manager’s job, you need to take care of it.”
“I see two players who aren’t even on the team.” There is one less player on the bench. We don’t understand why you have nine subs in the league but only eight in the League Cup.
“We lose Johnny Kenny and Maik Nawrocki, two players who work so hard in practice and are great, and they’re not even on the bench.”
“I’m lucky to have a great team that is pushing, but the players know that if they are on the team, they have to be ready to bring something new to the game.”
No harm has been done by Nawrocki.
Is there someone in this Celtic team who has had worse luck? There was always that question of what Nawrocki was doing in practice that kept Rodgers from picking him.
But then Celtic’s back line got hurt, and the Polish star came in and played some great games.
Now that it’s current day, Nawrocki is back to square one. He’s not even making the matchday squads anymore, and you wonder if this is the end of his time at Celtic.
Rodgers himself said that he was doing well in practice, so that can’t be a problem. He also said that he does well every time he plays, so why keep him out? Strange.
