Bristol City consider move for Middlesbrough’s £20k-a-week star

Bristol City interested in January move for Middlesbrough forward Delano Burgzorg

Bristol City are weighing up a January transfer for Middlesbrough attacker Delano Burgzorg as they look to strengthen their squad during the winter window.

According to The Northern Echo, Robins head coach Gerhard Struber has identified the 27-year-old as a potential option to add depth and quality to his forward line. Burgzorg has featured regularly for Boro this season, although he has struggled to secure a consistent starting role.

Now in his second year at the Riverside Stadium, the Netherlands-born forward earns a reported £20,000 per week and has started 34 of his 64 Championship appearances since joining the club. His output this season stands at one goal and two assists as Middlesbrough continue their push for automatic promotion under Kim Hellberg.

Middlesbrough open to Burgzorg exit under conditions

Bristol City are understood to be admirers of Burgzorg as they assess attacking reinforcements, while Middlesbrough are believed to be open to offers — provided they can line up a suitable replacement.

The Teesside club may look to move Burgzorg on to free up space in the squad, especially with reported interest in Brighton winger Jeremy Sarmiento, who could arrive as part of a reshuffle in attacking areas. Boro have already made progress in the market, with reports suggesting a deal has been agreed with Chelsea for Leo Castledine, potentially their first signing of the window.

With Burgzorg under contract until the summer of 2028, any deal would likely require a reasonable fee to convince Middlesbrough to sell.

A move that could suit all sides

Bristol City currently sit 10th in the Championship ahead of their FA Cup third-round clash with Watford at Ashton Gate, while Middlesbrough are second and preparing for a league trip to Fulham this weekend.

From Middlesbrough’s perspective, selling Burgzorg to fund a move for another attacker could make sense. While the forward has been a reliable squad option since arriving last season, he is not considered a central figure in Hellberg’s plans.

For Bristol City, Burgzorg’s Championship experience could prove valuable as they look to build momentum in the second half of the campaign. If the deal materialises, it could be one that benefits both clubs — and the player himself.
