Bukayo Saka has revealed his opinion on the penalty kick given to arsenal at 41 minutes of first half against West Ham United
In the middle of the six-goal thriller at the London Stadium on Sunday, Bukayo Saka put an end to a story from last season that had a bit of an effect on Arsenal’s season. When the Gunners had the chance to take control of the game against West Ham in April of last year, Saka missed a penalty kick. His team lost, but this time he made no mistake from the spot.
At the time, it was an important goal because it gave them a chance to go ahead by two goals and keep the score the same as the previous year. However, this time, Declan Rice was on the other side and set up the third goal and scored the sixth. Saka, on the other hand, made it clear that his miss from last year didn’t matter in the big picture by getting the penalty this time.
“If you’re going to take penalties, I don’t know of any that score all of them,” he said. “I don’t like missing, but I know it’s part of the game. That’s why I was ready to score when I got the penalty.”
He grabbed the ball and looked ready to go as soon as the choice was made. He had to wait a while too because VAR was calling someone offside, but when he got to the ball, he slammed it to Alphonse Areola’s left as he dove the other way.
When Saka takes a penalty, memories of the missed one he missed in the European Championship final will always be with him. The 22-year-old player, however, said that these lessons have made him a better player. He’s acting very grown up for being one of the team’s stars.
“My job has taught me a lot, and the best thing you can do is learn and enjoy the process of learning because it makes you stronger,” he said. Saka has scored 13 goals and set up 13 others this season across all tournaments, but his form has been inconsistent.
