Rodgers has made a big choice from the start of this season.
Benjamin Nygren, who was signed by Celtic in the summer of 2025, will play in the middle of the pitch instead of Arne Engels.
Celtic made a club-record move for Engels, but he has watched the first two games from the bench, including Sunday’s game at Pittodrie.
Celtic beat Aberdeen 2-0. Nygren, who is playing as a number eight with Callum McGregor and Reo Hatate, scored the first goal and helped his team keep their perfect start to the season.

Petrov, 24, has only seen a little of Nygren so far, but he likes what he sees. He was talking about the 24-year-old’s attitude.
The famous midfielder says Nygren has a “really good” attitude and looks “comfortable” when he has the ball in tough conditions.
This summer, Engels was “really good” for Celtic, but Petrov told Sky Sports Football (10/08/25) that Engels is no longer in the starting eleven.
When asked about Nygren, Petrov said, “I haven’t seen enough of him to say I’ve been impressed.”
The thing I like about him is how he acts. I really like the way he lives his life. When he got there, the team had already done really well last season. Engels has done a great job. Both Hatate and McGregor. He seems happy about the chance to start instead of Engels and to fight for that spot. It looks like he’s having fun with his football.
“(Against Aberdeen), it was a little harder for him.” He had to look for more action from him. When he did get the ball, though, he always looked at ease and was very good technically. Not sloppy.
He had to make the most of Celtic’s only chance in the first half, which he did. His time with Celtic has begun in a smooth manner.

Many people thought Nygren would replace Nicolas Kuhn when he left Celtic to join Como because he has played on the right side and can do so.
But Rodgers didn’t agree, so the Swedish star is now playing in the middle of the pitch, where things are going really well for the new player.
