Norwich City writers Paddy Davitt, Samuel Seaman, and Connor Southwell spoke with supporters to understand why the Canaries’ season has unravelled. With the managerial vacancy now the main focus, attention turns to who should replace Liam Manning. A shortlist is forming, and fans have begun voicing their preferred candidates.
Colin: “Jon Dahl Tomasson makes more sense than anyone else being mentioned. That Blackburn team that beat us under Dean Smith completely overran us, and they weren’t packed with star players. Tomasson seems like the type of coach who would steady the squad, stop the losing streak, and then build momentum. We probably just need a five-game run to climb out of this. Gary O’Neil feels like a short-term option, but Tomasson could be a solid fit for 18 months or more. Russell Martin and O’Neil divide opinion — Tomasson doesn’t. Right now, the fanbase needs unity and someone everyone can get behind.”
Chris: “I’m not saying he’s my pick, but I wonder if Mark Attanasio might consider someone like Jesse Marsch. Given Attanasio’s involvement and his background, you have to wonder if Marsch’s name enters the conversation. We need someone who can lift this squad immediately.”
CS: “Marsch is still with the Canadian national team, but we’re hearing Attanasio will be more hands-on in this appointment. What does that mean to you, Paddy?”
PD: “It’s interesting, because Attanasio has said publicly that callers to Canary Call know more about football than he does, and he doesn’t want to meddle in that side of things. But he also said nobody knows more than him about leadership and management structures. So he’s unlikely to dictate tactics or football specifics — that would go against everything he’s stated. He also said he had no involvement in Thorup’s sacking or in sorting candidates before Manning’s hire. But Ben Knapper won’t have the same level of freedom this time — he has used up a lot of his credit.”
Shane: “I’d love Daniel Farke back — many of us would — but realistically Gary O’Neil knows the club well. He played here and he’s tactically astute.”
Hayden (Blackburn fan): “On Tomasson, he left Rovers because he wasn’t backed. If you want someone who can deliver instant results, I’m not convinced he’s the quickest fix. But if he can stabilize things and keep Norwich up, Attanasio’s financial support could make him a strong long-term choice.”
CS: “That’s fair. He built a very structured, positional system at Blackburn, and that takes time to implement. The question is whether Norwich have that time, or whether they need a faster-acting solution.”
