Celtic F.C 25-year-old defender Alistair Johnston reveals the name of the player who was an extremely good penalty taker after the Scottish Cup Semi-finals match against Aberdeen
What a fantastic afternoon it was for the fans of Celtic at Hampden, where they witnessed what is likely one of the most memorable semi-finals in the history of the Scottish Cup. This is, at the very least, for the neutral.
Aberdeen scored late in regulation and extra time to force the game into penalties, which allowed them to shift from feeling hopeless after falling down early in the game to believing that they had won the game twice.
I am sure that I speak for many Celtic fans when I say that I was more than slightly startled when Joe Hart stepped up to take Celtic’s fifth penalty, which turned out to be the one that could have won the tie. We all know what occurred after that, but I am sure that I am speaking for many of them.
In spite of the fact that I am aware that Hart has been called for penalties in the past, I was not anticipating that the veteran goalkeeper would stand up in this kind of high-pressure game.
But he did, and he missed the target, but Hart made up for it by saving Aberdeen’s sudden death penalty, which allowed Celtic to advance to the championship game.
Subsequent to that, the question that arose was, “Who wants one?”
During training sessions, the only thing that keepers do is take penalties into each other. This is just to be fair.
“When he went up, I was actually feeling fairly secure about myself. I was under the impression that he was going to strike it like a goal kick and score a touchdown.
As a result of the fact that he is perhaps our greatest penalty taker in training, I was a little startled when he went for the corner kick.
We have all seen the films that are going around on social media that show Joe Hart taking a penalty kick and shooting it into the top corner, so it is easy to understand why Johnston was astonished when the Celtic goalkeeper attempted to put it into the bottom corner.
Regarding Hart, it is a testament to his bravery that he was able to take a shot and then recover in order to make the miraculous save that allowed Celtic to advance to the championship game.
It is precisely because of his leadership that he will be sadly missed when he ends his career at the conclusion of the current season.
