Celtic F.C. 37-year-old goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel gave his hidden reason why he signed for Celtic instead of a Premier League club
Brendan Rodgers and Kasper Schmeichel have reunited after their fruitful partnership at Leicester City, and Schmeichel has made a significant impact since joining Celtic this summer.
In all honesty, the Danish international has not had much opportunity to use his hands since relocating to Glasgow. Nevertheless, his dissemination has been remarkable, providing the Bhoys with a foundation to advance through the thirds.
Earlier in the window, his transfer to Celtic was expedited. The veteran goalkeeper’s contract is initially set to expire next summer, with the option to extend it by an additional year if it is mutually beneficial.
In January, the Daily Mail reported that Nottingham Forest was interested in Schmeichel. In July, Wolverhampton Wanderers were identified as potential candidates for his signature by outlets in Denmark.
However, he has now established a residence at Celtic, where he is held in high regard. The Copenhagen-born individual has disclosed the reasons for his decision to relocate north of the boundary in response to Premier League interest in his services.
Kasper Schmeichel on the factors that convinced him to transfer to Celtic
Schmeichel has disclosed to Tipsbladet that the strain of competing for trophies at Anderlecht compelled him to pursue a transfer to Celtic, despite acknowledging that Premier League clubs were also interested in him this summer.
He clarified, “It is true that the English Premier League showed a significant amount of interest, and it is always a positive sign to receive interest from clubs from such a large league. However, I must be forthright and admit that the focus was not on the clubs at the top of the English table.”
He subsequently stated, “I was reminded in Anderlecht of the joy of playing for a championship when we elevated the old big club from 11th place last season to compete for the championship until the final round of matches, just as I attempted to do successfully at Leicester.”
“It is simply my preference.” At a premier club such as Celtic, where trophies are perpetually pursued, each match is fraught with significance, and I appreciate the necessity of playing to win each time.
Schmeichel possesses the appropriate mindset to achieve success at Celtic. At Celtic, football is primarily about securing trophies. Schmeichel seems to comprehend the strain and prefers the challenge over operating at the opposite end of the table, which is a testament to his character.
It is conceivable that he would not have been the Premier League’s top goalkeeper at the age of 37. He is eager to continue establishing himself as a favored choice between the sticks, despite the fact that he may have had access to some financially appealing alternatives.
Schmeichel has performed exceptionally well in his initial appearances at Celtic. However, he will be cognizant of the fact that the genuine challenges are yet to be encountered as the Bhoys endeavor to contend with all obstacles in order to achieve success.
It is our hope that the veteran will be able to lead the way by leveraging all of his experience in the upcoming months.
