Celtic F.C captain Callum McGregor urges the club to sign the 22-year-old Portuguese professional footballer on a permanent contract deal

Celtic will take a well-earned break before the next few weeks, when hiring new players will become their top goal at Parkhead.

Brendan Rodgers has led the Bhoys to a domestic double, and he wants to build on a good first season back in charge, even though there will be some tough tasks along the way.

Still, Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi has been linked with a surprise move back to Japan during the window. However, this is just one story that will be going around as rumors about players coming in and going out grow.

Rodgers will also have to decide what will happen with Adam Idah and Paulo Bernardo, who still has an option to buy the team for about £6.3 million.

While the market is still closed, it’s still possible that Celtic will be able to make a deal to bring either player back to Parkhead.

Paulo Bernardo should be signed by Celtic, says Callum McGregor.

Transfermarkt says that Bernardo played 33 times for Celtic in all competitions in 2023–24, scoring four goals and setting up three others.

Sources say that club captain Callum McGregor wants the Bhoys to sign the Portugal Under-21 international on a permanent deal. He said that the player’s personality and drive made him a great fit for the club.

He said, “Listen, he’s been a key player for us. He’s young and wants to do well, and he has great technical skills.” That’s the kind of person we want at the club. We should be able to get him back. He’s also a great kid.

“He works really hard, and he’s part of our group.” It’s clear that the club will decide what happens there, but that’s the image we want. You want players who are hungry, good at their craft, and can make a difference if they come in.

Even though he was in and out of Rodgers’ starting lineup for most of the season, Bernardo has had some good games for Celtic, like the amazing goal he scored against Rangers in December.

Still, sources say that Parkhead could get rid of up to eight players over the summer. When players leave, continuity may be very important. The man from Almada is a useful asset that the club should not let go of.

Of course, a lot will depend on how willing they are to work out a deal with Benfica to get him, but fans will have to wait and see what happens.
