Brendan Rodgers, the manager of Celtic, revealed that Cameron Carter-Vickers and Alistair Johnston are still hurt after being scratched from today’s League Cup match against Falkirk.

Eight changes were made to the Celtic team from the one that beat Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League last week. Rodgers addressed two of the absences.

Cameron Carter-Vickers’ foot was already giving him trouble, and Alistair Johnston has some swelling in his foot.

And this afternoon, Rodgers gave a report on how the Celtic pair are doing with their return to first-team play.

A “brave and courageous” Celtic hero is praised by Rodgers

Before the game, Rodgers was asked how many changes he had made to his Celtic team’s squad.

Rodgers said that Carter-Vickers and Johnston were not fit enough to play, even though he did say that some players were rested.

“Cam is hurt, so he wouldn’t have played anyway,” Rodgers told BBC Radio Scotland. It’s been a while since he hurt his foot, so we’ve been taking care of him and Ali.

“Ali, he got an injection to ease some pain and swelling, so he also wouldn’t have been available today.” So those two made it happen.

“Just today.” Ali will get ready after he starts working with the team. We’ll have to wait and see about Cam.

“He has had trouble with his foot and has been getting injections to help.” We thought that the game during the week there showed how brave and bold he is. He wants to play and put himself out there, but we need to make sure we take care of him too because the season is long.

Celtic’s team depth

Brendan Rodgers will need a deep squad for Celtic this season because they have a lot of games and will be sure to play in Europe until January.

Rodgers brought in seven players this summer and has used all but one this season (Viljami Sinisalo). This shows how important it will be for him to have a strong bench for Celtic this season.

When Celtic plays St. Johnstone away from home next, Rodgers will definitely use his bench to keep his team fresh without putting his defense of the league title at risk.
