Brendan Rodgers Shares Celtic’s Plans for the International Break
Brendan Rodgers has revealed how Celtic will approach the upcoming international break — but with most of his squad away representing their countries, the period won’t feature the kind of intensive training some may have anticipated.
The Celtic manager admitted that time on the training pitch will be limited, with only a small number of first-team players remaining at Lennoxtown.
Speaking to Celtic TV, Rodgers explained:
“It is, but there won’t be so much because a lot of the players will be away. It’s not like we have the whole squad together for two weeks before Dundee.
Some of them will rest and recover a bit, but we’ll be ready for Dundee, and we’ll carry the good feeling from today’s result into that. We’ll take a short break, do some work, and be ready in a couple of weeks.”
The break comes on the heels of Celtic’s dramatic late win over Motherwell and provides an opportunity for those staying behind to reset. While there won’t be much group tactical work, Rodgers views it as a vital window for rest and recovery — both physically and mentally — after a demanding start to the season.
One boost for the Hoops boss is the expected return of defender Alistair Johnston, who is close to full fitness after a hamstring injury and should rejoin training ahead of the trip to Dundee.
With several key fixtures approaching — including a top-of-the-table clash against Hearts at Tynecastle — Rodgers will hope the break allows his players to recharge and that those on international duty return without any new injury concerns.
