Celtic F.C. coach Brendan Rodgers explains the main reason why Daizen Maeda might have to leave the club and the timing for it

Brendan Rodgers addressed the circumstance involving Celtic forward Daizen Maeda during his press conference on Friday.

Maeda disclosed to Japanese media that he submitted a request to depart the Hoops during the summer, but he was denied permission to do so until the deadline.

Despite his contract with Celtic until 2027, the Japanese star has not been performing at his best this season.

The manager then immediately addressed the bombshell revelation at his pre-Kilmarnock press conference, as it was reported that Maeda and Rodgers were scheduled for crunch talks.

In an interview with reporters, Rodgers disclosed that Maeda initially expressed his desire to depart the club in February, prior to the summer transfer window.

He subsequently acknowledged, however, that Celtic were not prepared to sell Maeda in the summer, which is why the 27-year-old is still in Glasgow.

Rodgers stated, “Daizen expressed a desire to depart in February.” I continue to believe that we must be prepared for the possibility of a player’s departure; however, we were not in this window.

Rodgers also addressed the Adam Idah to Swansea City transition.
Other transfer news included Rodgers’ response to inquiries regarding Adam Idah on the day of the deadline.

In a £7 million transaction, Idah departed Celtic for Swansea City. However, the club was unable to secure a replacement for him prior to the 11 p.m. deadline.

Rodgers has emphasized that Idah was adamant about remaining at Parkhead, while the manager has indicated that he is unaware of the cause for the delay in securing a replacement.

He stated, “Adam was a player who had not requested to be removed.” Swansea desired him at the same time as other potential outcomes for us.

“We were apprehensive about losing him.” It appeared that one would be eliminated and one would be introduced; however, this did not transpire for some unknown reason.

“Kelechi (Iheanacho) possesses genuine talent and is robust.”
