He would turn down Leeds United to play for Celtic.

It is the second level of football in Italy, and Charles Pickel plays defensive middle for Cremonese. The twelve-times-capped defender from the Democratic Republic of the Congo is wanted by many English Championship clubs, but Paradise is thought to be his first choice.

According to a report from Football Scotland, teams in the English Championship, such as Leeds and Preston, are very interested in the player.

“Football Scotland knows that Celtic would be Pickel’s first choice, but it remains to be seen if they will make a firm offer for the summer.”

Should Celtic sign Charles Pickel?

Pickel moved from the Portuguese team Famalicao to Cremonese in 2022. He has played 63 times for the Italian club and has scored six goals and set up two others.

Pickel has won two big awards: he is a two-time Swiss champion, having won the league with FC Basel in 2016 and 2017.

Celtic would be interested in Pickel because he can play many positions. The 26-year-old has played right back, center back, and on the wings.

Pickel was born in Switzerland and has played 21 times for Switzerland at the youth level through to the youth level. However, he decided to play for the DR of Congo instead because his dual citizenship helped him get his first of 12 senior caps with an assist against Sudan in the 2023 African Cup of Nations. Pickel has helped Cremonese get to fourth place in the league, just seven points behind the team that will automatically move up from Serie A.

It says that Pickel is one of the best players in Serie B, with an accuracy rate of 85.7% and a success rate of 60% with long balls.

Pickel isn’t exactly setting the heather on fire when it comes to defense, though. This defensive midfielder is much worse than his teammates in the same league. He only wins 60% of his tackles, 52.5% of his duels, 73 of his ball recoveries, and only 16 of his steals.

Pickel is the right age and has a lot of experience for Celtic, but is he better than the players we already have at the club? Does he have the skills Brendan Rodgers has been looking for?
