Celtic legend Chris Sutton has branded Rangers “serial bottlers” while drawing an intriguing parallel between Danny Rohl and Martin O’Neill.
The former Hoops striker was asked whether Rangers’ recent upturn — highlighted by victory over Hearts at Ibrox — concerned him, despite Celtic seeing off Kilmarnock.
With the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership now down to three points and Celtic holding a game in hand, O’Neill’s side could move clear if they defeat Rangers and Aberdeen next month.
While Sutton acknowledged Rohl’s impact, he insisted Rangers’ history of faltering in key moments leaves him unconvinced. Speaking on BBC 606, he told a Rangers supporter: “You’ve been serial bottlers for years. I’m not overly concerned. I think Danny Rohl has done a brilliant job.
“There are similarities between him and Martin O’Neill. Rangers haven’t been outstanding under him, but he’s steadied the ship — much like O’Neill did. Hearts certainly aren’t out of it either. Losing at Ibrox doesn’t end their challenge.”
Sutton also took aim at Kilmarnock manager Neil McCann, dismissing his complaints about stoppage time as “sour grapes” after the Rugby Park clash.
