Celtic interim boss Martin O’Neill has issued a warning to the club’s board regarding their pursuit of Wilfried Nancy

Wilfried Nancy is expected to replace Martin O’Neill as Celtic manager within the next few days.

Talk surrounding Nancy’s impending arrival has intensified this week, with the French coach tipped to be officially confirmed soon.

Reports indicate he will take charge on December 1st, while O’Neill oversees the squad for the clash against Feyenoord tonight and this weekend’s Premiership match against Hibs.

O’Neill issues firm advice to Celtic chiefs ahead of Nancy’s arrival

Before bowing out, O’Neill has delivered a firm warning to the Celtic hierarchy, stressing the importance of properly supporting Nancy — especially in terms of recruitment.

Celtic’s transfer strategy has been inconsistent this season, and O’Neill believes that must change immediately if Nancy is to succeed. He emphasised that Celtic will only progress again in Europe if the board corrects their recent missteps.

“They might need to take a step back right now. Recruitment is crucial,” O’Neill cautioned.

O’Neill reminds the board of Celtic’s European expectations

To drive home his point, O’Neill referenced club legend Jock Stein, reminding the board that European competition is where Celtic should always aim to compete. Asked whether the club recognises its recruitment issues, he replied:

“Absolutely. People say January is a tough window, and it can be. But if you want to rebuild the club to compete in Europe — and avoid the shock when people expect you to go to Feyenoord and win — that’s the key. As Jock Stein said, European football is Celtic’s home. Right now, though, we’re struggling.”

A victory over Feyenoord would keep Celtic’s Europa League hopes alive; defeat would make progression extremely difficult.

With Nancy preparing to step into the role, Celtic fans will hope the board takes O’Neill’s advice seriously. As he departs, O’Neill remains a respected figure and a hero to many supporters.
