Celtic interim manager Martin O’Neill has confirmed that Cameron Carter-Vickers will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2025-26 campaign due to a serious Achilles injury, a blow that also casts major doubt over his chances of featuring for the United States at next summer’s World Cup.
The centre-back, who has earned 19 caps for the USMNT, had been in the running for a place in the squad.
Speaking ahead of Celtic’s match against St. Mirren, O’Neill explained that Carter-Vickers faces a long recovery after being hurt in the 2-1 Europa League win over Sturm Graz last month.
“We won’t see him again this season,” O’Neill told reporters, adding that April is likely the earliest the defender could return to training on the pitch. When asked about his World Cup hopes, Carter-Vickers admitted it “looks very unlikely.”
Before the injury, the American had played 13 times this season, taking his total Celtic appearances to 172 since arriving on loan from Tottenham in 2021.
