Celtic are being linked with a move for a Columbus Crew striker as the club edges closer to appointing Wilfried Nancy. The Hoops are widely expected to strengthen their
attack, with the current situation raising several questions. Johnny Kenny has flourished under interim boss Martin O’Neill, but it’s uncertain whether he’ll keep his place when a permanent manager arrives.
Kelechi Iheanacho’s future is also unclear following Brendan Rodgers’ departure, while Callum Osmand impressed early on before suffering a long-term injury.
Daizen Maeda scored over 30 goals last season but is again being tipped for a January move after a summer exit was blocked, leaving the striker department in an uncertain state.
The forward Celtic are reportedly considering is Jacen Russell-Rowe of Columbus Crew. The Canadian international was on their radar last year, but the club couldn’t get a deal done despite several attempts. However, his record of 22 goals in 109 games isn’t exactly prolific, and he may not be the guaranteed goalscorer Celtic need.
It’s unclear whether Celtic will definitely look for a striker in January — although many feel it’s necessary, similar expectations in the last two windows never materialised.
Nancy appears to be the frontrunner for the Celtic job, and with the January window approaching, the board will have to support him with real quality if he takes over. According to 67 Hail Hail, Celtic already admire one of Nancy’s current forwards at Columbus Crew and could revive their interest if he wants to bring him to Glasgow.
