Celtic seal agreement for new striker as Glasgow arrival looms after medical

Celtic have struck a £3m agreement to bring in Lorient winger Joel Mvuka, with the 23-year-old currently in London for a medical, Sky Sports reports.

Martin O’Neill is pushing for late additions before the January window shuts as his side try to reel in league leaders Hearts. Julian Araujo and Tomas Cvancara have already come in, and both featured from the start in Sunday’s 2-0 Scottish Premiership win over Falkirk.

Cvancara netted his first goal for the Hoops in front of the home support, while Araujo has quickly become a regular since arriving from Bournemouth.

Celtic sit six points behind Hearts, who continue to set the pace, meaning more signings could be needed if the Glasgow club are to mount a serious push for top spot.

According to Sky Sports, the deal for Mvuka is in place, with the winger due in Glasgow later after completing his medical.

The move is said to appeal to the Norway international as he looks to strengthen his chances of making his country’s World Cup squad. Although he has featured regularly for Lorient in Ligue 1 this season, Mvuka has yet to record a goal or assist and hasn’t always been a guaranteed starter, so his impact has been limited.

Given his modest numbers, the transfer may not immediately thrill supporters, who could still be hoping for more arrivals before the deadline. Still, Mvuka has plenty to prove and will be aiming to make the most of a bigger stage in Scotland.
