Celtic urged to pursue SPFL standout as asking price revealed

Peter Grant has urged Celtic to consider a move for Hibernian striker Kieron Bowie, claiming the forward could be a smart long-term signing for the club.

The former Celtic midfielder believes Bowie’s combination of physicality and finishing ability makes him an attractive option, suggesting the Hoops should look to secure the 23-year-old for around £3 million after his impressive return of seven goals this season.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, Grant reflected on Bowie’s early career, recalling his time at Raith Rovers where the striker showed promise but lacked physical development.

“I watched him at Raith as a young man,” Grant said. “He was very thin and needed to fill out. That’s just how he was.”

Grant believes Bowie’s progression since then has been clear, particularly following spells at Fulham and Northampton, where injuries ultimately helped him develop physically and improve his goalscoring output.

The former Hoops midfielder also highlighted Bowie’s performances in European competition this season, praising his strength and composure against seasoned opponents.

“I watched him in Europe and thought he was excellent away from home,” Grant added. “He was bumping experienced players and holding the ball up really well.”

While Bowie has faced setbacks due to injuries, Grant noted the striker’s resilience and pointed to a recent standout goal as evidence of his continued development.

“He dipped a bit after another injury and was in and out of the team,” Grant said. “But he kept going and scored a wonder goal recently. I just think he’s going to keep improving.”

Grant made it clear he would have no hesitation in bringing Bowie to Celtic, believing his ceiling is far from being reached.

“If I was Celtic, I would take him,” he said. “There’s no doubt in my mind because I think he’ll only get better.”

He also speculated on the potential cost of any deal, suggesting Hibs would likely value the striker closer to £6 million, but insisting Celtic should be prepared to walk away if the fee rises beyond £3 million.

“You’d pay £3m for him,” Grant explained. “If it goes above that, you say not right now. You’d hope he comes in, scores goals, and you treble your money.”

With Bowie continuing to impress at Easter Road, growing links to Celtic could signal a step up for the promising forward. Whether the Hoops act on Grant’s advice remains to be seen, but the striker’s form and potential make him a name to watch.
