Charlton Athletic have reached an agreement to bring Ipswich Town defender Harry Clarke to The Valley on loan for the remainder of the January transfer window.
The Addicks are yet to make a signing this month, but that looks set to change with Clarke expected to become Nathan Jones’ first addition of the window. Journalist Pete O’Rourke has reported that a deal has been agreed with Ipswich, although a completion date has not yet been confirmed.
Clarke played a key role in Ipswich Town’s promotion from the Championship in 2025 but has struggled for minutes since, failing to make an appearance during the 2025/26 campaign so far. With limited opportunities at Portman Road, the 24-year-old is now set to move on in search of regular game time.
Who is Charlton Athletic new arrival Harry Clarke?
Clarke is naturally a right-back but has often operated as a centre-back during his career. He came through the youth system at Arsenal before establishing himself at Ipswich Town, where he earned a reputation as a dependable defender. However, a serious knee injury over the past year has disrupted his progress.
Recent reports suggested Charlton and Sheffield United were both monitoring Clarke’s situation, with Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna open to allowing the defender to leave on loan to regain match fitness and sharpness.
Who else could Charlton Athletic sign this month?
Charlton have been linked with several players ahead of the January window, though movement has been limited. One name mentioned was former Addicks midfielder Joe Aribo, who played for the club between 2015 and 2019 and previously worked under Jones at Southampton. However, Jones has since dismissed those links.
Hull City full-back Cody Drameh has also been touted as a possible target, with Hull manager Sergej Jakirovic admitting the player is unhappy and could depart before the window closes.
For now, Clarke appears set to be Charlton’s first signing of the month. If he can stay fit and quickly rediscover his form, he could prove a valuable addition as the Addicks look to steady themselves in the Championship during the second half of the season.
