Charlton break silence after Championship match against Portsmouth called off

Charlton Athletic’s Championship clash against Portsmouth was abandoned on Saturday afternoon after a medical emergency in the crowd.

The game, which had only reached the 12th minute, was stopped when paramedics attended to a fan in the Covered End. Referee Matthew Donohue eventually directed both teams off the pitch in the 19th minute.

The supporter was taken from the stadium on a stretcher following ten minutes of treatment.

Charlton have struggled for form since their last Championship victory over West Brom last month, suffering defeats to Wrexham, Southampton, Stoke City, and Coventry City.

Portsmouth, promoted back to the Championship in 2024, will also have to wait to complete the fixture. Both clubs now await a rescheduled date for the match.
