Chelsea legend John Terry has slammed Chris Kavanagh with a strong message over Declan Rice’s controversial Arsenal red card vs Brighton

After Arsenal’s game against Brighton at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon, Chris Kavanagh has been closely looked at.

There was a 1-1 draw between Arsenal and Brighton, and John Terry was angry that Chris Kavanagh gave Declan Rice a second yellow card. Soon after the 24-year-old player was sent off, Joao Pedro leveled the game, which took the wind out of the Gunners’ sails.

In a controversial move early in the second half, Rice was given a second warning for what seemed to be delaying the start of the game after a foul on Joel Veltman. Then, after Kai Havertz had opened the scoring, the Seagulls took advantage of their lead and scored an equalizer on the hour mark.

A few people were confused by the on-field referee’s choice to send off Rice. Interestingly, Pedro had done the same thing earlier in the game and not been punished. These things were asked of Mikel Arteta and Fabian Hürzeler after the game.

The Arsenal manager begged the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) to be fair, but the Seagulls manager ignored the complaints. “If it [bookings for delaying the restart] happens throughout the game in the same way every time, that’s fine,” Arteta said. “But it didn’t.” It is the lack of continuity.”

When asked for an answer, the Spanish man said, “None, as always.” We had a great start to the game. We scored the first goal, 1-0. We got off to a great start in the second half, but then there was the call that changed the whole game.

Hürzeler said on Match of the Day, “First of all, he shoots the ball away, which is a clear yellow card. It changes the flow of the game.”

Kavanagh’s decision has caused a lot of disagreement, and fans, experts, and past players have all had their say. Terry is the most recent of these people to speak out. Rice finally spoke out on Sunday by writing on Instagram, “Disappointed.” Thought it didn’t deserve a second yellow card, but will learn from it and be better for it. No matter what, I’m proud of the boys and thank you for all your support, Gunners [red heart emoji].”

There were almost 10,000 comments on the post before the former West Ham captain chose to cut down on the conversation. Rice got help from William Saliba and Oleksandr Zinchenko before Terry wrote, “Worst decision EVER [angry face emoji].”

That being said, Rice and the legendary Chelsea player have every right to be angry with the referee’s work. Mark Halsey wrote a piece for The Sun in which he talked about Kavanagh’s choice.

When Brighton’s Joel Veltman took the free kick, the ball was already moving, so the restart would not have happened because it would have been against the law.

As a result, the delaying a restart does not work. Kavanagh found trouble when he looked for it. He is a good enough judge at this level that players shouldn’t be sent off for this. He could have handled things better by talking to both teams.
