Chido Obi’s initial interview since joining Manchester United: “I am passionate about scoring goals.” In his inaugural interview with Manchester United’s club media, Chido Obi expressed his “passion for scoring goals.”
Obi transferred from Arsenal to United in the summer, and Ruben Amorim provided him with his first-team debut against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League earlier this month. Obi was re-included in the senior squad for the visit of Ipswich Town to Old Trafford on Wednesday night, and he also made an appearance from the bench at Goodison Park last weekend.
On Friday, the Under-18s will face Arsenal in the FA Youth Cup quarter-finals. United has released a seven-minute video that outlines their journey to this juncture of the competition. Obi expressed his joy at scoring a hat-trick against Chelsea, stating, “I love to score goals and I love to help the team win in this big competition, so yeah, it’s really good.”
It is the first time that footage of Obi speaking has been broadcast by United’s in-house media. However, the 17-year-old did respond with a “good” when the Manchester Evening News enquired about his cameo against Everton as he walked through the Goodison Park mixed zone on Saturday.
Adam Lawrence, the U18 manager, expressed his admiration for Obi following Chelsea’s victory, stating, “It was a really good night for both of the goalscorers [Obi and Scanlon].” I believed that the two of them had exceptional performances, with the exception of the goals.
It is evident that Chido is an inborn goal scorer. “He aspires to score goals and secure those positions, but I was particularly impressed with his link-up play. He not only stretched and ran in behind, but also recognised when to show into his feet, how to use his body to shield the ball, and when to involve others in the play.” Lawrence continued, “It was a genuine collaborative endeavour.”
Upon entering these events, there is always a sense of apprehension; you are aware that the outcome is contingent upon your performance and how you manage the situation on the night.
“In conclusion, I believe it is fair to say that we earned the victory and the outcome.” As with any tournament, it is necessary to accept each game as it is played, as it will present unique obstacles. “We have undoubtedly surmounted that obstacle tonight.”
We hold Chelsea in high regard as an academy. We are aware that they have a strong team and a number of exceptional individuals. We have recently played a few exceptional bouts with them. Upon reaching this stage, the group will be presented with a variety of enquiries; however, we were able to address them. The junior Cup experiences of every junior player are etched in their memory.
