Chris Sutton and Kris Boyd brutally blast Stephen Robinson over disallowed St Mirren goal vs Celtic

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson criticised VAR after watching his side lose to Celtic in Paisley on Tuesday night.

A stunning late strike from Callum McGregor sealed the win for Celtic, leaving Robinson furious. He claimed officials would “find some excuse” to justify ruling out St Mirren’s goal and took a dig at VAR for not asking referee Don Robertson to check the monitor.

Reacting to Robinson’s complaints, Celtic legend Chris Sutton said the St Mirren boss was “talking rubbish.” Even Kris Boyd agreed the officials were right to disallow Liam Scales’ own goal.

Sutton told Sky Sports Scotland he was “surprised” by Robinson’s comments. He said there was “no doubt” about the correctness of the decision, explaining that Scales knew an offside attacker was nearby and that influenced his attempted clearance.

Boyd also backed the decision, saying Scales was simply trying to shield the ball back to Kasper Schmeichel but hurriedly poked it into his own net after spotting another St Mirren player arriving from an offside position. He added that there was no need for a VAR monitor check because the assistant referee had already flagged for offside.
