Celtic went into their clash with Dundee trailing league leaders Hearts by five points, fully aware that only a win would keep their title hopes alive.
Manager Brendan Rodgers finds himself under increasing pressure, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season and frustrations mounting over the club’s poor transfer activity. Meanwhile, Celtic supporters have turned on the board, protesting what they see as a lack of ambition — unrest that has only grown as performances on the pitch continue to falter.
To make matters worse, Daizen Maeda was ruled out of the match after suffering a leg injury while on international duty with Japan, leaving Rodgers with a depleted attack. But even beyond injuries, the manager faced further headaches after a disastrous first-half showing from one of his starters.
Chris Sutton questions Yang Hyun-Jun’s selection over James Forrest
Celtic found themselves 2–0 down at halftime against Dundee after goals from Clark Robertson and an own goal by Cameron Carter-Vickers, prompting strong criticism from former striker Chris Sutton on Sky Sports.
Sutton expressed disbelief that Yang Hyun-Jun had started ahead of veteran winger James Forrest, saying:
“McCracken hasn’t had any real saves to make. I just don’t understand why Yang started ahead of Forrest. Yang looks lost — he doesn’t seem to know what to do when he gets the ball. Get him off.”
Yang’s performance did little to justify the manager’s faith — he failed to complete a single dribble, lost possession nine times, and was withdrawn at halftime.
Forrest’s limited impact after coming on
Forrest, a 13-time Scottish champion, replaced Yang after the break but couldn’t spark a turnaround. Now 34, the long-serving winger — whose contract runs until 2026 — may be entering the final chapter of his Celtic career.
Despite his experience and work rate, Forrest has yet to record a goal or assist this season, and that drought continued in the 2–0 defeat at Dundee — a result that deepened Celtic’s problems both on and off the pitch.
