Chris Sutton reveals the reason why Scotland was defeated by Hungary (0-1) in the Euro 2024 as Celtic F.C. defender Anthony Ralston was praised for his performance

Because of how well Scotland did at Euro 2024, some people have said mean things about the Celtic players on Steve Clarke’s team.

It was former Rangers manager Graeme Souness who picked out Callum McGregor for his part in the 5-1 loss to Germany. In response, Celtic played a great game in the 1-1 draw with Switzerland.

Anthony Ralston was next. He was getting flak for making a mistake that let Switzerland tie the game in their second group game of the event.

Even though David Moyes had already said that the slack pass was caused by Grant Hanley’s pass, which put pressure on the Celtic defense.

Well, it looks like another one of Ralston’s Scotland teammates is also to blame for the Celtic fullback’s problems in the event. Chris Sutton just brought this up.

Jack Hendry puts Ralston “under severe pressure” all the time.

Chris Sutton reveals the reason why Scotland was defeated by Hungary (0-1) in the Euro 2024 as Celtic F.C. defender Anthony Ralston was praised for his performance

To get over his mistake against Switzerland, the former Celtic hero praised Ralston’s “attitude and spirit.” However, it looks like Ralston’s tournament is not going well because of his former teammate Jack Hendry.

[Daily Record] Sutton said, “He’s gotten some flak for his part in the Swiss goal the other night, but he was really, really lucky.”

“It fell right in front of Xherdan Shaqiri, but the finish was out of this world.” Even though it was wrong, the sentence was very harsh.

It’s been said before that I love Ralston’s energy and attitude. He only played eight games for Celtic last season, but he doesn’t want to hide. The other night, his friends also made things hard for him.

This competition has put him on the back foot all the way through by playing balls behind him or not fast enough. The pass from Grant Hanley put him under a lot of pressure.

“He didn’t get any praise for his work, but if they ask him to do it again, he’ll do it again.”

In football, Ralston is a type of fullback who likes to attack and is always trying to get ahead. If the way his Scotland partner passes the ball is bothering him, Sutton is right to bring it up.

All the crazy things being said about Ralston online come from one side of Glasgow. It looks like they’re trying to find someone to blame for what was a very good draw.

The only thing Ralston and McGregor need to do to silence their doubters is play well tonight against Hungary and help Scotland make it to the round of 16.

Then and only then will the story against them end, because they will be remembered as part of Scotland’s first team to ever make it out of the group stage of a big national tournament.
