Chris Sutton struggles to process Wilfried Nancy’s Celtic situation after nightmare start

Wilfried Nancy is heading into what could be the defining weekend of his short Celtic reign.

The Frenchman’s start at Parkhead has been nothing short of disastrous. Defeat at Dundee United made it four losses from four matches, leaving supporters furious at full-time inside Tannadice. The anger was unmistakable, with many fans making it clear they believe Nancy should already be shown the door.

But after only four games, is such a verdict justified? Celtic legend Chris Sutton has weighed in, outlining exactly where he believes things stand ahead of Sunday’s crucial clash with Aberdeen.

According to Sutton, the upcoming fixture is now a must-win for the Celtic boss. A fifth consecutive defeat – particularly on home soil – would significantly intensify calls for his dismissal.

Writing in the Daily Record, Sutton admitted he was stunned by his own conclusion.

“I genuinely can’t quite believe I’m saying this after just four games in charge, but if Wilfried Nancy loses again against Aberdeen, his position becomes untenable,” Sutton wrote. “It sounds absurd, and it gives me no pleasure to say it.

“People outside Scotland struggle to understand it, but this is the reality in Glasgow. Celtic managers are judged on results – nothing else.

“It has been a disastrous beginning for the Frenchman, and things have already reached a point where you have to question how long this can realistically continue.”

Sutton also warned that the margin for error has effectively vanished. Based on the performances so far, it is difficult to see Celtic suddenly putting together a winning run over the next block of fixtures.

Any more dropped points could severely damage not only the club’s title ambitions, but also their hopes of even securing second place. For Nancy, the pressure could hardly be greater.
