Chris Sutton takes aim at Danny Rohl following Celtic’s dramatic comeback

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton wasted little time responding to Rangers boss Danny Rohl after a dramatic afternoon at Ibrox Stadium.

Rangers surrendered a two-goal advantage in Sunday’s 2-2 draw, yet Rohl chose to centre his post-match comments on the late penalty awarded to Celtic, describing the visitors as “lucky” to come away with a point. Celtic were well below their usual standards in the first half and found themselves 2-0 down. However, the response after the break completely transformed the contest.

The penalty itself sparked little real debate. The ball struck an arm, the handball was clear, and the decision stood up to scrutiny. If there was frustration from a Celtic perspective, it was more that it took a late spot-kick to cap a dominant second-half display.

Sutton, on commentary duty for Sky Sports, later took to social media to poke fun at Rohl’s complaints, writing that the Rangers manager “whinging about Celtic being awarded the penalty is something else…”

Celtic had already seized control long before VAR intervened. Kieran Tierney pulled one back to shift the momentum, and from that point Rangers looked increasingly uneasy. The pressure mounted, chances followed, and the equaliser felt inevitable.

Rangers were comfortable at the interval but spent much of the second half pinned back. Focusing solely on the penalty rather than the inability to handle Celtic’s intensity risks overlooking the bigger picture.

The point keeps Celtic firmly in the title conversation. A victory at Pittodrie would see them leapfrog Rangers and close the gap on league leaders Hearts. In a season full of twists, it represents another opportunity to shift the balance.

Rohl may frame it as fortune. Celtic will point to the second-half performance as justification.
