Steve Bruce Shown the Red Card by Blackpool — Now Urged to Hang Up His Managerial Boots and Enjoy Retirement
Steve Bruce’s short stint at Bloomfield Road came to an end earlier this month, with the 64-year-old relieved of his duties after a shaky start to the season. The former Manchester United great had returned to the touchline last September after nearly two years out, but his comeback didn’t go to plan on the Fylde Coast.
Now, ex-Seasiders defender Ian Evatt is tipped to take the reins, while Stephen Dobbie has been holding the fort in the interim.
With a dugout career spanning nearly three decades — featuring spells at clubs like Stoke City, Crystal Palace, and West Brom — Bruce hasn’t managed since parting ways with Sheffield Wednesday in 2020.
And now, footballing voices are urging the veteran to call full time on his coaching career.
“Brucey’s done it all — from Gillingham to the Premier League — and there’s nothing left for him to prove,” said one former colleague. “It’s time he spoils the family, puts his feet up, and enjoys the game from the stands. He’d be welcome in any stadium across the country.”
“After 30 years in the game, it’s been a brilliant run. Now it’s time to kick back and enjoy the next chapter.”
