Championship leaders Coventry City are reportedly considering a loan move for Crystal Palace youngster Romain Esse following Brennan Johnson’s £35m switch to Selhurst Park.
According to reports, the Sky Blues are keen on the 20-year-old winger, who joined Palace from Millwall in January 2025 but has found first-team opportunities limited. Esse has made just three Premier League appearances this season, totalling 37 minutes of action.
The Daily Mail suggests the England youth international could now be made available on loan after Palace completed the signing of Brennan Johnson from Tottenham Hotspur on a four-and-a-half-year deal.
Johnson’s arrival has further strengthened Palace’s attacking options, potentially pushing Esse further down the pecking order.
Frank Lampard’s Coventry side sit top of the Championship and are nine points clear of third-placed Middlesbrough, having lost only three of their 25 league games so far this season.
The club see Esse as a player who could add depth and variety to their attack as they push for promotion.
Esse has also struggled for minutes in cup competitions, playing just 45 minutes in Palace’s Carabao Cup campaign.
With Oliver Glasner having several experienced forward options at his disposal, a temporary return to the Championship could prove beneficial for the youngster’s development.
