Coventry City transfer close to completion as medical reportedly arranged

Coventry City appear to have made a clear decision on the future of Norman Bassette, with reports suggesting the striker is closing in on a move away from the club.

According to Sky Sports Germany, Bassette is on the brink of a transfer to FC Kaiserslautern, with his current loan spell at Stade de Reims set to be cut short to facilitate the move.

The report claims the 2. Bundesliga side have agreed a six-month loan deal that includes an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season.

It is also stated that the Belgian forward is scheduled to undergo a medical on Tuesday, with the deal described as effectively complete.

Bassette signed for Coventry City from Caen in the summer of 2024 and went on to feature 29 times during his first season at the CBS Arena, finding the net twice. However, he failed to establish himself under Frank Lampard and has not featured for the current Sky Blues boss since April. In fact, the striker has not started a Championship fixture for over a year, despite having a contract that runs until 2028.

In search of regular football, Bassette joined Stade de Reims on a season-long loan at the start of September. Since then, he has scored twice in 13 appearances for the Ligue 2 promotion chasers, who currently sit second in the table. Even so, his involvement has been limited, with just six starts and none since October.

With Kaiserslautern now moving quickly to secure his services, Bassette’s time at Coventry City appears to be drawing to a close as the Sky Blues reshape their attacking options.
