In the opening round of his first MMA fight since January 2022, Ngannou defeated Renan Ferreira by knockout. He dedicated the victory to his late son Kobe, who regrettably passed away at the age of 15 months earlier this year due to an undiagnosed brain disorder. In his dressing room, Ronaldo discussed his son’s tragic death during childbirth in 2022 with Ngannou prior to the fight. Erick Nicksick, Ngannou’s coach, discussed the encounter with MMA Junkie, stating that Francis rose to bind his hands and Ronaldo could sense Francis’ energy. Nicksick then proceeded to offer him words of encouragement.

He was discussing the loss of one of his offspring and how it affected him. I am aware of his immense fame, but the fact that he was seated next to me and engaged in this deeply intimate conversation immediately made him feel as though he was a valued member of the team. “His son [Cristiano Jr] was in there with us and hanging out, so it was very much a welcomed energy to have in the room, especially someone of that stature who understands the highest pressure.”
