Danish press respond after Celtic hero Kasper Schmeichel ‘lost his composure’ in Denmark’s win against Greece.

Kasper Schmeichel is making headlines after his eventful performance in Denmark’s crucial World Cup qualifying win over Greece — a night where the Celtic star showed both his class and frustration.

Heading into the match, Denmark were under pressure following Scotland’s 2–1 victory over Belarus, which tightened the race at the top of Group C. While Celtic teammate Kieran Tierney helped secure Scotland’s play-off place, Schmeichel was visibly agitated despite Denmark cruising to a comfortable win.

So why was the Danish goalkeeper so furious during what should have been a routine victory? The Danish media have provided the answers.

🇩🇰 Why Schmeichel ‘Lost His Temper’

Schmeichel, who had been on a run of four consecutive clean sheets for club and country against Lithuania, Scotland, Greece, and Belarus, was aiming for a fifth shutout. However, with Denmark leading 3–0, Greece pulled one back in the 63rd minute — and that’s when Schmeichel’s frustration boiled over.

According to Danish outlet DR,

“The current ‘Mr. Clean Sheet’ for both Denmark and Celtic had kept opponents out in the first three qualifiers, so a fourth in a row was expected in Parken. The goal wasn’t preserved, and Schmeichel showed his frustration after the Greek strike, even picking up a yellow card. Still, he produced key saves, particularly in the second half.”

Sport TV2 added:

“The goalless run ended when Greece scored — Schmeichel could do nothing about it. He looked furious when they got on the scoresheet and was booked for holding the ball back. What had been a quiet night turned chaotic, but he later pulled off a stunning save to deny Greece a second. Hats off to that.”

And Tipsbladet noted:

“The experienced goalkeeper had more to do than in his previous games, as Greece pushed after scoring. He lost his fifth straight clean sheet and clashed with Ioannidis during the goal, which led to a booking.”
