Danny Rohl admitted Rangers were far from their best against Livingston but suggested the team wouldn’t have found a way to win this type of match before he took charge.
Missing nine players through injury, Rangers still managed a narrow 2–1 victory thanks to a late strike from Mohamed Diomande, after Emmanuel Fernandez’s early goal was cancelled out by Teti Yengi.
Rohl, who now has four straight league wins since replacing Russell Martin, said the nature of the performance showed how much progress the squad has made.
He felt the team lost focus after taking an early lead, with sloppy passing, weaker counter-pressing and poor aggression in the build-up to Livingston’s goal. Still, he stressed that earning three points from a scrappy display was a positive sign.
The German boss praised the impact of substitutes Bojan Miovski and Nedim Bajrami but admitted it was Rangers’ first real test against a deep defensive block.
He added that four wins in a row was something he would have gladly accepted a month ago.
Rohl substituted Thelo Aasgaard at half-time, saying the decision was based purely on tactics.
He wanted a natural striker in the box to help Danilo find more space. Rohl insisted Aasgaard still has a bright future at the club and will get his chance again.
