Danny Rohl has revealed that Barcelona manager Hansi Flick sent him a heartfelt “good luck” message after he was appointed as the new Rangers head coach.

The pair share a strong bond, having worked closely together at Bayern Munich and later with the Germany national team, winning seven trophies in two seasons — including the Champions League. Flick, now in charge at Barcelona, continues to stay in touch with Rohl, who steps into his first major managerial role at Ibrox.

Danny Rohl has opened up about the supportive message he received from Hansi Flick after becoming Rangers head coach, as he also discussed his relationship with the current Barcelona boss.

Rohl’s debut comes on Thursday night against Brann in the Europa League, with the 36-year-old facing a tough start. Rangers currently sit sixth in the Premiership, with only one league win to their name and no points in Europe after two matches.

The club’s troubles have stretched beyond the pitch too, with fans protesting against CEO Patrick Stewart and sporting director Kevin Thelwell. After failed approaches for Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat, Rohl was finally appointed following a prolonged 15-day search.

Rohl admitted he often seeks guidance from Flick — both professionally and personally — and that his mentor’s message meant a lot.

“He wrote me a message saying, ‘Good luck and all the best.’ He said he’s very happy for me and will cross his fingers,” Rohl said.
“It’s great to have someone like him who you can call anytime — to talk about football or even personal matters.”

As he settles into life at Ibrox, Rohl is finalising his backroom staff, revealing that two assistants from Germany will join him, along with a former Rangers player to help bridge the cultural and footballing understanding of Scottish football.

“It’s important to have someone who understands the league, the fans, and the club. We’re finalising that as soon as possible,” he added.
