Danny Rohl has strong reason to back Rangers victory over Hearts at Ibrox

Danny Rohl has Ibrox reason to feel confident of Rangers win vs Hearts

All eyes in Scottish football will be on Ibrox on Sunday afternoon.

Rangers host Premiership leaders Hearts in a 4:30pm kick-off in what is undoubtedly the biggest match of the season so far for both clubs. Danny Rohl’s side sit five points behind Derek McInnes’ men and know the stakes could hardly be higher — a win would cut the gap and reignite the title race, while defeat could leave their ambitions hanging by a thread.

Why Rohl can take confidence into Sunday

Rangers head into the clash on the back of a frustrating 1-1 draw with Motherwell. Nicolas Raskin handed the Gers an early lead after just six minutes, but an 89th-minute equaliser denied them maximum points.

That result means Rangers have won just one of their last three Premiership matches, drawing with Hibernian before beating Kilmarnock. It’s not the kind of momentum they would have wanted ahead of such a defining fixture.

However, if Rohl and the Ibrox faithful are searching for encouragement, the recent history of this fixture in Glasgow provides plenty.

Out of the last 10 meetings between the two sides at Ibrox in all competitions — stretching back to October 2021 — Rangers have won seven. That dominance on home soil offers a significant psychological boost heading into Sunday’s showdown.

Hearts did emerge 2-0 winners the last time they visited Ibrox in September 2025, but that victory stands as something of an exception in what has otherwise been a difficult venue for the Edinburgh side.

Strong away form — but Ibrox factor remains

To their credit, Hearts have been impressive on their travels this season. From 13 away league matches, they have suffered just three defeats, while recording eight wins and two draws.

Yet, despite that strong away record, Rangers’ recent superiority in this fixture at Ibrox cannot be ignored.

With the title race potentially hanging in the balance, Rohl will believe that home advantage and past success against Hearts in Glasgow could be decisive. For Rangers, Sunday presents not just a chance to close the gap — but to send a statement that the race is far from over.
