Danny Rohl issues response amid claims Villarreal are eyeing a January deal for Rangers winger Djeidi Gassama

Spanish La Liga side Villarreal are reportedly tracking the winger, who arrived from Sheffield Wednesday during the summer.

Currently sitting third in the Spanish top division, Villarreal are looking to reinforce their squad in the January transfer window and are believed to have identified Gassama as a possible target.

Danny Rohl, however, is refusing to fuel the speculation, expecting plenty more transfer rumours to surface around his squad. Gassama has become a fan favourite quickly, scoring key goals in the Champions League qualifiers.

After the loss to Ferencvaros, Rohl said:
“I’m not getting into rumours — there will be plenty of talk about players leaving and coming in.
He’s one of our players, and that’s all there is to it.

“We need every member of the squad in top condition.
That’s our focus for the next few weeks. There are big opportunities ahead, but we must make progress on Monday by keeping a clean sheet and being ruthless in both boxes.”

Following a summer in which the club’s recruitment was heavily criticised, Gassama is regarded as one of the bright spots of their business.

Rohl repeated after the Ferencvaros defeat:
“I don’t want to comment on speculation. He’s part of our squad, and that’s where it stands.
We need everyone performing well, and the aim now is to sharpen up
