Danny Rohl’s era set to begin with a bang as Rangers plot January swoop for two talented Bundesliga star.

Rangers Monitoring Freiburg Talent Berkay Yilmaz Ahead of Possible January Move

Rangers are reportedly among several European clubs tracking Freiburg defender Berkay Yilmaz, as reported by German outlet Bild. The 20-year-old left-back is currently in his second season on loan at 2.

Bundesliga side Nuremberg, where he has produced four goal contributions in 14 appearances this term.

The Ibrox club is said to be competing with Toulouse and an unnamed Eredivisie side for Yilmaz’s signature, while teams from the Bundesliga, Serie A, and La Liga are also monitoring the situation. Freiburg have the option to recall the youngster in January, a possibility that has alerted multiple suitors.

Rangers’ Interest and Rohl’s Early Progress

Danny Rohl, who took charge in October after replacing Russell Martin, has made a strong start at Ibrox. Rangers are unbeaten in the Premiership under his leadership, winning all four league matches and closing the gap on surprise leaders Hearts to nine points with a game in hand. However, they remain winless in the Europa League after a 1-1 draw with Braga.

Rohl’s side face Falkirk away and Dundee at home in their upcoming Premiership fixtures.

Yilmaz Prefers to Finish Season at Nuremberg

Despite growing interest, Yilmaz reportedly favours completing the season with Nuremberg, where he feels settled.

A mid-season transfer appears unlikely, with any future move expected to cost more than €5 million. Freiburg are expected to review his situation at the end of the season.

Yilmaz, a product of Freiburg’s academy, has yet to make a first-team appearance for the Bundesliga club. He has accumulated 39 games for Nuremberg across two loan spells, scoring once and providing four assists.

Europa League Hopes Fading

With only one point from their first five matches, Rangers’ chances of advancing from their Europa League group look slim.

Rohl’s men must now face Ferencvaros, Ludogorets, and Porto in their final three games and will likely need at least two wins to stay in contention for a knockout place.
