According to a spokesperson, former President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with a “aggressive form” of prostate cancer, per a statement issued on May 18.

South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley posted a message of support to Biden and former First Lady Jill Biden on X, which was formerly known as Twitter, less than 24 hours after the diagnosis was made public.

“Sending love and prayers to the Biden family, including @JoeBiden and @DrBiden,” she wrote. “We aspire to see the work you have accomplished in the field of cancer paid back in the form of complete remission.” I concur.

On Sept. 10, the Gamecocks visited the White House to commemorate their 2024 national championship. Biden, who served as president from 2021-25, was 82 years old.

At the ceremony, Biden commended Staley for distributing a portion of the 2017 championship-winning revenue to each Black Division I coach.

“That is your legacy,” Biden stated of Staley. “This entire team has established a legacy that serves as an example for the future.”

The summer and autumn of 2024 saw Staley participate in a variety of Biden-related events, in addition to continuing the tradition of championship-winning teams visiting Washington, D.C.

Staley’s inclusion in Jill Biden’s presidential delegation at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris was discovered only a few days later. Staley participated in three Olympic games: 1996, 2000, and 2004.

A month later, on August 22, Staley was in Chicago for the 2024 Democratic National Convention to lend her support to Harris, who was a candidate in the 2024 presidential election alongside Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

Upon Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential campaign on July 21, Staley commended his efforts and commended his endorsement of former Vice President Kamala Harris.
