“Deal agreed.” – Hidden reason why Manchester United is selling Scott McTominay to Serie A side Napoli

Scott McTominay will leave Manchester United after 22 years to play for Napoli after the two teams agreed to a deal.

Scott McTominay is getting closer to finishing his £25 million move to Serie A team Napoli. Today, he could have a medical in Naples.

The Manchester United midfielder is going to Italy to finalize a deal that will end his 22-year relationship with the team he played for as a child. The two clubs have agreed on a fixed fee for the 27-year-old player.

It sounds like McTominay would enjoy a new task at a club that won Serie A in 2022–23 and has a lot of fans. Another player who wants to play in a new league is the Scotland international. Antonio Conte, the manager of Napoli, had wanted to sign him.

United didn’t want to lose their academy graduate because they turned down a £30m deal from West Ham for him in August of last year. He then had his best season at the club, scoring 10 goals, and United didn’t want to let him go.

They agreed to a deal with Napoli after turning down an offer from Fulham earlier in the window. This was because McTominay wanted to play more and the club wanted to get rid of some young players in order to meet Premier League financial rules.

So far this season, McTominay has only played a small part in United’s three meaningful games. He started the FA Cup final in May, but most people thought he would only play a small part this season.

Casemiro wasn’t sold, even though United had thought about doing so earlier in the transfer window. Also, the arrival of Manuel Ugarte and Mason Mount’s return to form and fitness put McTominay on the outside, and United couldn’t promise him the starting spot he wanted.

The Profit and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) of the Premier League also make it easier to sell youth players, who are counted as pure profit for the year. Getting McTominay for £25 million is now a better deal, and his leaving will help pay for Ugarte’s £42.3 million move. Ugarte is set to have his medical at United on Tuesday.

After 253 games, 29 goals, and wins in the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup, McTominay will leave United.
