George Kittle disclosed on “Bussin’ With The Boys” Tuesday morning that the San Francisco 49ers and he have reached an agreement regarding a four-year, $76.4 million extension. Kittle becomes the highest-paid tight end in NFL history as a result of the transaction, which also secures his tenure with the 49ers until the 2029 season.
The 31-year-old tight end was approaching the conclusion of his five-year, $75 million contract, which had previously been the highest-valued contract in the tight end market.
Kittle has already established himself as one of the most accomplished pass catchers in the franchise’s history. Kittle ranks third among all 49ers players in career receiving yards (7,380), third in career receptions (538), and eighth in career touchdown receptions (45) after only eight seasons. His receptions and yards are the highest among all 49ers tight ends, and he is second only to Vernon Davis in receiving touchdowns.
Kittle is second only to Travis Kelce in receiving yards and receptions since being drafted by the 49ers in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He has the third-most receiving touchdowns, trailing only Kelce and Mark Andrews.
“In our inaugural season with the 49ers in 2017, we recruited a thin tight end from Iowa who piqued our interest.” John Lynch, the team’s president of football operations and general manager, stated in a release, “We had high expectations, but no one anticipated that he would develop into the player he is today.”
“George’s leadership, enthusiasm for the game, and devotion to his teammates and the Faithful are truly exceptional and distinctive.” He is an exceptional representative of the 49ers on the field and an exceptional representative of the organization off the field, as evidenced by his investment in the local and military communities. He takes great delight in his position and has dedicated himself to becoming one of the most talented tight ends in the NFL.
Kittle accumulated the third-most yards (1,106) among all tight ends in the league and is coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. Since becoming a full-time starter in 2023, the two-time first-team All-Pro selection has become one of quarterback Brock Purdy’s preferred targets, leading all 49ers players in yards (2,126), targets (184), receptions (143), and receiving touchdowns (14).
