Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand reveals why Manchester United and Denmark forward Rasmus Hojlund lacks goals in his country side

The manager of Denmark, Kasper Hjulmand, is of the opinion that Rasmus Hojlund’s scoring drought for his country in recent matches is nothing more than a “phase.”

Hojlund was acquired by Manchester United from Atalanta for a fee of seventy-two million pounds during the summer of 2013, as the club saw his potential to develop into one of the most prolific forwards in Europe.

Despite the fact that it took Hojlund until December to score his first goal in the Premier League, he had a remarkable run of form in 2024 and finished the season with 16 goals in all competitions.

The first year that Hojlund spent in England was quite successful, and he is expected to play a significant part for Denmark at the European Championship that will be held in Germany this summer.

During the qualifying round for Euro 2024, the 21-year-old player was instrumental, scoring seven goals to assist Denmark finish first in their group. In spite of this, he has only managed to score once in his last eight international matches.

When queried about Hojlund’s lack of goals in recent matches, the manager of Denmark, Hjulmand, responded by saying, “It comes in phases when it comes to goals.” There will be instances when you have a stretch of time in which you score a lot of goals.

The good news is that Rasmus consistently leaves a significant impression in each and every game. In spite of the fact that he is exceptionally dangerous and highly determined, he consistently makes a difference, which is the most essential aspect.

“The goals will come and sometimes you’re gonna have to fight more for the goals and other times they’re just gonna go in every time you kick.”

Hojlund is scheduled to start for Denmark in their first Euro 2024 match, which will take place on Sunday afternoon against Slovenia. This is despite the fact that he has not produced a single goal for his country in recent times.

Additionally, Christian Eriksen will be featured. Amid the press conference that took place prior to the match, the midfielder reflected about the cardiac arrest that he experienced while playing for Denmark in the year 2021.

“It’s been three years, a lot of things have happened in the meantime and so honestly I don’t think about it on a daily basis,” Eriksen explained to reporters. “I wouldn’t say that I overthink this at all. The only thing I can think about is how excited I am to play football, and I am thinking about the positives.

He continued by saying, “I think those are great memories, and of course it started very negative and very pessimistic.” He was referring to Denmark’s journey to the semi-finals at the most recent European Championship.

“However, as time went on, everything became more upbeat, and we gained more independence. It has been a significant amount of time since then, and at this point, we are going to concentrate just on the games.

After Denmark’s participation in the European Championship is done, Eriksen will have one year left on his contract with Manchester United, and he has confessed that he will think about his future away from Old Trafford.

Since signing with United on a free transfer in 2022, the seasoned midfielder has played for the club a total of 72 times thus far.
