The England vs. Denmark match at Euro 2024 seemed to mean that two teams with Manchester United stars would play each other.
When the Euro 2024 group stages were set up at the end of last year, Manchester United fans thought that the match between England and Denmark would be fun to watch.
The Danes have Rasmus Hojlund and Christian Eriksen. Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire, and Luke Shaw were all known to be on the England team.
None of the three English players played. Because of his bad form, Rashford didn’t make the team, and Maguire didn’t because he was hurt. Shaw is with England, but he is still not fully fit.
Teenage star Kobbie Mainoo is a Manchester United player who wasn’t supposed to be in the England team.
Kobbie Mainoo wasn’t given the chance to play Rasmus Hojlund.
They didn’t let Kobbie Mainoo play against Denmark or his Manchester United friends, which made him very angry.
There was no way that England manager Gareth Southgate could have picked him for the game, either as a starting or a substitute.
The game went to extra time four times, but England still tied 1-1.
Many United fans were upset that Mainoo wasn’t playing, but it might be good for him to get some rest and avoid getting hurt.
It’s interesting that Mainoo was chosen to talk at a press conference before the game. He said he was looking forward to possibly playing Eriksen and Hojlund.
The funny side of things for Rasmus Hojlund
Rasmus Hojlund thought it was funny that he didn’t have to play Mainoo and that the teams shared the points, so neither team can talk about beating the other right now.
“At least it won’t get awkward with Kobbie next training,” he wrote on Instagram.
After one game, Hojlund was one of the competitors with the fastest speeds. He went faster than ever against England and is now second in the world in that category.
He didn’t score the goal he was going for, though, and has now gone six international games without scoring.
The last game for both teams is between England and Slovenia, and Denmark plays Serbia.
