Tigers running back Jahmyr Gibbs says he switched his shirt number from 26 to 0 just to save time.
If Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs fans want to wear his new number in 2025, they will have to buy a new shirt. This is Gibbs’ third year as a player. He wore No. 26 for the first two years of his career.
Other than the fact that he “hated 26,” Gibbs said there was no deep or personal reason for the change. For his first season with the Lions, the running back had to wear No. 26, but he changed it right away, he said at his kids football camp.
Fox News’ Eric Woodyard reported that Gibbs said, “I hated 26.” “When I was picked, the only numbers that were available were 26, 33, 35, and a few others, so I chose 26.” I changed it as soon as I could. And since Jamo [Jameson Williams] already had one, zero was right next to it. It doesn’t mean anything in particular.
Gibbs also said he was afraid the No. 0 would look bad on him, but he is happy with how it looks on his shirt. Gibbs is happier with No. 0 than he ever was with No. 26. He isn’t sure if he will keep it for the rest of his career, though.
New cornerback Terrion Arnold wore No. 0 in 2024. In 2025, he will move to No. 6. It is not clear which person made the first choice to change.
Gibbs took his game to a whole new level in 2024. As a rookie, he ran for 945 yards, which was a lot. Gibbs ran for 1,412 yards and 16 scores in his second season, even though he shared the backfield with David Montgomery. He also had 517 yards and four more scores through the air.
